Cara C. Sawyer

Of Counsel

  • Family Law

Cara Coyne Sawyer is a family law attorney at Lamb McErlane. She advocates for her clients and supports them through family law matters including divorce cases, issues related to custody, child support, spousal support, and alimony.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Prior to joining Lamb McErlane, Cara practiced at a large Philadelphia law firm, where her practice focused on providing counsel to educational institutions regarding policy development and leading investigations into sexual and gender-based harassment and violence, and other forms of misconduct. Cara spent over a decade with the State of Delaware, where she developed policy and managed agencies in the areas of child welfare, and substance abuse and mental health. She began her career as a child abuse and sexual assault prosecutor, working for five years at the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office.

PERSONAL BACKGROUND:

Cara grew up in Central Pennsylvania but has called the greater Philadelphia region home since 2004. As a single mother of three kids, Cara has lived through the challenges of divorce and custody. With that experience, Cara has a unique perspective on what a client is feeling and how to get them through one of the hardest times of their life. More importantly, Cara coparents and shares custody of her children and can assuage concerns about getting from separation to supporting your children through coparenting. While that path often feels daunting, Cara helps clients navigate with an eye towards looking forward and finding peace on the other side of separating households.

Cara earned her JD from the Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University, an MA from the University College Cork, Ireland and an undergraduate degree from University of Scranton. She is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and is located at the firm’s West Chester West location.
