Lamb McErlane Partner James C. Sargent Reappointed as Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Amicus Curiae Brief Committee

West Chester, PA – Lamb McErlane PC announces that James (Jim) Sargent, Partner and Co-Chair of Lamb McErlane’s Appellate Advocacy Group and Litigation Department, will serve another one year term as Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s (PBA) Amicus Curiae Brief Committee.

The Amicus Curiae Brief Committee of the PBA identifies legal issues that have relevance to the Pennsylvania Bar in general and that are appropriate subjects for amicus curiae briefs. The Committee then decides whether or not to participate in specific appeals, and, where the Committee decides to participate, prepares amicus briefs that attempt to reflect the perspective of all practitioners statewide, which is not necessarily outcome determinative for any party. An amicus curiae brief focuses on points of procedure or law that have significance beyond individual cases, and in some instances attempts to raise awareness about a deficiency in existing law or procedures that the courts might otherwise miss. An amicus curiae is not a party to the case, but brings to bear experience or perspective that may be valuable to the court.

At Lamb McErlane Jim represents major national and multinational manufacturers in litigation and appeals involving class action, product liability, taxation, warranty, fraud, employment and consumer protection law claims. He frequently consults for other law firms, speaks at Bar Association seminars on preparing briefs and arguments for appeal and was an Adjunct Professor at Villanova Law School for ten years.
